Plymouth Gazette are working with UPSU during this student election cycle to bring the candidates to you in their own words, unedited and unabridged to represent their true personalities and passion. These are Obioha Emmanuel Chukwunwike’s answers to our questions. Chucks is running for VP Activities.
Why are you running for your role?
My name is Obioha Emmanuel Chukwunwike (chuks)I am running for vice president of activities because I believe that covid19 has greatly affected our student experience over the past one year and so societies and clubs have not been able to perform as effectively I believe that now more than ever we need passionate and purposeful leadership that would be able to partner with students, societies and clubs so as to provide innovative solutions to the problems we are currently facing as students
What makes you different to the other candidates running?
I am different from all other candidates because I am very passionate about championing student voices and serving the students, higly motivated and overly qualified, and I put others before myself as selflessness is my strongest virtue.
In what way will you improve the influence of the student voice on the way that the university and SU operates?
I will ensure that the student voice as a team are more accountable because accountability breeds responsibility
If you could only pass through one of your policies this year, what would it be and why?
if I could only pass only one policy it would be improved funding for clubs and societies, I believe clubs and societies have not been able to perform as effectively because of covid19 and so I want clubs and societies to get adequate financial support to be able to run their activities and make up for lost time.
What approach are you going to take this year regarding working virtually and in person during your time in office?
Whether working virtually or at home I will give 100% my best and more
Do you think there should be more emphasis placed onto students to either get their work and research published in academic journals or to compete representing the university in their sports clubs/societies? Why?
yes I do believe that students should be encouraged to publish their work and research on academic journals because you never know who would read it, it may be your future employer. I also believe students should be encouraged to represent the university in their sports club/societies because it leads to popular participation, creating bonds and new friendships and if you are really good at the sport you might get scouted and that would kickstart your career
How will you improve the university services digitally and in person?
I will improve the university services by telling them to implement all the demands of the students.
